Alex Miller fell in love with the Monterey Peninsula at a young age and knew he would be a lifelong resident. After graduating from high school, he moved to Seaside to attend CSU Monterey Bay, where he earned a B.A. in Human Communications.
EDUCATION ABROAD
Throughout his education, he was fortunate to study abroad, learning Spanish in San Jose, Costa Rica, and taking courses through Santa Clara University School of Law in Singapore. In the spring of 2019, he studied International Human Rights with the Mississippi School of Law in Merida, Mexico, and took a course on Comparative Legal Systems in Vienna, Austria. These experiences broadened his perspective on government systems both in the USA and worldwide.

SCHOOLS & SOCCER
Since 2015, Alex has worked inside Monterey County and Santa Cruz County schools — as a substitute teacher and as an Independent Studies teacher in South Monterey County, work that put him face to face with the challenges local families actually deal with.
For 25 years he has also worked as a soccer referee for school districts and youth leagues on the Peninsula, making fast, fair calls under pressure. He has coached with the Seaside Police Athletic League and worked with Coast‑to‑Coast Soccer, contracting with local school districts to bring soccer instruction to kids across Monterey County.
BEFORE COUNCIL
Community service has been essential to Alex throughout his life. For five years, he served on the Neighborhood Improvement Commission for the City of Seaside, and for three years as Chairman. During his tenure, he achieved significant accomplishments including:

Renovating the Sonoma Street basketball courts

Replaced Neighborhood Watch program signage citywide

Repainted a PG&E-owned fence running through a residential neighborhood

Built an ongoing line of communication with residents across the city
ON THE COUNCIL
In December 2022, Alex took the oath to become a City Councilmember in Seaside. Before taking office, he held five community meetings across the city to listen to residents and distill their input into his vision for Seaside's future. Over his three years on the City Council:

Securing funding for multiple parks — Cutino, Highland Otis, Sabado, Fernando, and Lincoln-Cunningham Park — and the Wheeler Street tennis courts

Advocating for an economic development director position, which was created and filled within six months

Supporting economic growth, helping to develop Seagrove, Campus Town, and the Grand Hyatt projects

Building a strong partnership between the City of Seaside and the Monterey Bay Union Football Club, raising the Union flag outside City Hall and switching to blue lighting when the team wins

Establishing a “Respond within 48 hours” policy to ensure city agencies are responsive to residents

Publishing a monthly newsletter highlighting outstanding city departments, commissions, and individuals who contribute to the community

Secured funding for a monthly low‑cost spay‑and‑neuter clinic and pushed for a citywide spay/neuter ordinance

Successfully lobbied to place Measure CC — on fireworks sales — before Seaside voters

Advocated for funding to repair the San Pablo Bridge
WHY HE'S RUNNING
Alex is running for Mayor to keep the community safe, carry through on his vision for a better Seaside, and keep pushing city agencies to be more responsive. He believes strong police and fire departments, paired with real community services, are what public safety is actually built on.
He’s committed to being a team player on Council while staying independent enough to speak up when he disagrees. His education, his years in Peninsula classrooms, and his hands‑on record in Seaside neighborhoods are, he says, exactly the preparation the job calls for.
